Darryl Franklin Reaves

Candidate Statement:

Darryl Franklin Reaves, Lawyer, former member of the Florida House of Representatives.
Back in 2004, my mother posed a question. “What are you going to do about the young boys and girls whose lives are wasting away on the street corners of our community? There has to be a program for them.” I said, “there is a program, it is called the Miami-Dade County Public School system.”
Again, she asked, “What are you going to do?’  I told her that the best financed program for education was the school system. She looked at me and said, “If your father was alive he would do something.”
Wounded by the truth, I began to seriously think about the plight of education in District 2. After a careful examination of the conditions and the possibilities, I ran for the school board in 2006.
My mother lived to see me garner over 14,000 votes only to lose by a small vote margin. Before she passed, I told her I would be back and this time I would win. Winning not for the sake of winning, but to be able to do something for the boys and girls whose lives are dependent on a solid education.

I do hope you follow through. I am a school crossing guard and I see what’s going on with the youth of America. The schools have become “day-care” centers instead of teaching facilities. I went to school in NYC many years ago, but my son went to Comstock, Kelsey Pharr and Miami Jackson; there was pride in the way teachers taught and there were also more school days. Last school year there were only 180 school days and most of them were dedicated to FCAT. I am putting my trust in you, I am 62 years old, do not let our future falter.

Please stop embarrassing your family by continuing to run for elected office. You have lost no less than seven (7) consecutive races. It’s very obvious that the public is not interested in you as an elected official. Please find something that contributes to our community and stick to it. You are a smart young man with a law degree and you should develop something on your own.
